Description	Future site of the Century 21 Exposition (Seattle World’s Fair). In 1956, the City of Seattle’s Civic Center Advisory Committee selected land surrounding the existing Civic Auditorium at the foot of Queen Anne Hill for the site of the Century 21 Exposition and a future Civic Center for the city. In 1957, the city acquired the property through condemnation. With a few exceptions, including the Civic Auditorium (which was transformed into the Opera House) and the National Guard Armory (which became the Food Circus), most existing buildings were demolished. This set of photos documents the site before demolition began. Remarks by Werner Lenggenhager: "The center's Flag Plaza has always been something of a center of activities within the center itself. It also served and still does as something of an Oasis where people come to and tarry for a moment, soaking up the grand view of Queen Anne Hill. During World's Fair days there was a glamourous Restaurant which simply faded away in time to be replaced by more modest but cheery coffee and Donut concessions. The view is still there and free to enjoy and so are seats impromptu to be sure at the waterside pools from the cascading waterfalls. The picture would'nt be complete without a casual glance back, 1957 to be exact. Let each Viewer pass his own remarks. (This is a new print for this collection only) W.L . "Note: The 1957 collection of center area has 87 prints. So if acceptable I made an extra print for what will be a sizable King Tut Memorabilia collection. If not suitable as I am not a librarian, tear it up or keep it for yourself, just so I know it's safe. W.L."
