Description	Closing ceremonies of the Century 21 Exposition (Seattle World's Fair). "The World's Fair will say farewell to Seattle today in a sentimental closing program of ‘spectacular' proportions…A thousand marching musicians, fair and government officers, singers, $10, 000 worth of fireworks and the young persons who will be Century 21 leaders will be wrapped into a two-hour finale to the fair." (Seattle Times, October 21, 1962, p. A.) Memorial Stadium was built in 1948 in memory of former Seattle high-school students killed in World War II. Owned by the Seattle School District, it was leased to the Century 21 Exposition for the Seattle World’s Fair. The Fair’s opening ceremonies and many large events were held there.
