About this project

The Seattle Public Library is beginning work on an exciting new initiative: the Seattle Neighborhood History Project. Starting with Fremont, the Library is working to preserve and provide access to materials related to the history of Seattle neighborhoods. Selected materials will be digitized and made available via the Library's online special collections.

The purpose of the Seattle Neighborhood History Project is to:

  • Preserve materials related to the history of Seattle neighborhoods.
  • Provide access to neighborhood history materials in neighborhoods as well as at the Central Library.
  • Empower all Seattle residents to learn about and understand the history of their neighborhoods.
