Description	China North first opened in 1972, under the ownership of Joseph Lee. Cary Chen moved to Seattle after the dissolution of the "illustrious Uncle Chen's in Portland" and became the chef-owner of this restaurant, serving the six cuisines of Chinese cooking - Canton, Hunan, Peking, Shanghai, Szechuan, and Fukien. It was reviewed in the Seattle Times on November 14, 1980. "Uncle Chen" as he was known, left in 1986. The restaurant continued on until 1990, when it changed owners again and was renamed Gourmet City.
