Pacific Highway Talent, Oregon 97540 (503)535-2575 Continental Cuisine with an Eastern European Flair Chata (pronounced Ha-ta) is the Polish word for a thatched roof cottage in a Polish village. Just as roof thatching has become a lost art in Poland and most chatas have roofs of materials other than straw, our Chata here in Talent has a conventional, rather than thatched roof. However, the warm and homey traditions of the Polish chatas are not a lost art and we thank you for letting us share them with you. Mamaliga, Bigos and Chicken $10.00 Mamaliga, Bigos and Sausage $ 9.25 Petite Dinners Just a little hungry? Smaller portions of some of our entrees are available for half price plus a dollar. Many of our appetizers, when combined with soup or salad make a satisfying light meal. Desserts Our desserts are baked here at Chata and include: honey egg custard, Russian chocolate cake, lemon cheese cake, tortes of poppy seed, hazel nut or walnut, Polish honey cake, linzer torte, rum baba, apple streudel, pot de cream au chocolate, bavarois, and fruit meringue torte. A tray with the evening's selections will be presented to your table after dinner. All desserts are $1.75 each. Dinners Your complete dinner consists of home made* soup or salad, selected entree, fresh dinner vegetables and home baked bread. You may have both soup and salad for an additional dollar. * Indicates Petite Dinner portions available. * Bigos - Polish Hunter's Stew $8.50 Every ancient Polish manor has its own Bigos recipe, a most delectable dish, served at every hunting party. Our Bigos is a combination of Chata-made pickled cabbage, beef, smoked pork, sausage, apple, celery, onion and tomato served with boiled potato With whole Polish Kielbasa Sausage, with Dijon mustard $10.50 Sausage for Dinner $7.50 Either smoked Polish Kielbasa Sausage, mildly flavored with garlic, or peppery Hungarian Sausage served with boiled potato, vegetables and mustard Both Sausages $9.75 $8.75 Sirniki Savory Polish cheese cakes sauteed to golden brown, served with sour cream, dinner vegetables and fresh fruit. Braised Leg of Lamb $11.75 Garlic studded leg of lamb, braised with sherry and mint, served with eggplant caviar, long grain brown rice or gryka (toasted buckwheat groats with mushrooms and onions) Jarski Obiad $7.50 A dinner composed of the vegetables on tonight's menu, with eggplant caviar and a choice of boiled potato, brown rice or gryka (toasted buckwheat groats with mushrooms and onions) Mamaliga de Aur $8.50 "Bread of Gold," a staple of Rumanian peasants, is sauteed slices of cornmeal mush sprinkled with cheddar and caraway jack cheeses in a sauce of fresh mushrooms, cream and wine Sampler Plate $9.50 A combination of three of our most popular dinners, Mamaliga, Bigos and your choce of either mildly flavored Polish or peppery Hungarian Sausages Co Za Bimba! $12.50 Three-quarter pound T-Bone steak sauteed to order with fresh mushrooms. Meat continues to be a scarce item in Poland. Lines outside a meat market are a common sight. A person being served such a piece of meat might exclaim 'Co za bimba! What a party!'
